Sports; how they express what an American is

Sports are viewed as activities to keep people active and a pastime when we are young. As time continues, we realize that sports have way more to offer than leisurely activities and connect us all. This week we will discuss how sports can impact people and how they show the values of what it means to be an American.

Day 1: The real importance of sports ted talk

Brief class discussion on video, Are his points valid views on how sports impact males in our society? Can these same concepts/ideals discussed be transferable to other genders?

How does sports alarm society to issues that harm society?

    Form groups of 2-3 for assignment due a few days later. Each group will be assigned an aspect of Identity ( Race, Religion, Class, Ethnicity, Immigration, gender, sexuality, freedom, equality)

Assignment :

    Students will prepare a 2-3 min quick presentation on the value of sports outside of the physical activity. In the presentation, Students will incorporate their aspect of identity. Explain how sport can start and elevate conversations around your aspect of identity.  Are certain sports able to elevate your identity further and create change rapidly, or would it be a continuous effort that would need to be devoted?
